After failing tó defeat Liu Káng in thé first mortal kómbat tournament, the eviI sorcerer Sháng Tsung has managéd to convincé his master, Shaó Khan, the supréme ruler of 0utworld and the surróunding kingdoms to sparé his life. Kang tells his master they should host another tournament in Outworld, forcing the Earthrealm contestants to participate again. Shao Khan agrées and sends thé invitation to Raidén, thunder god ánd Earthrealm protector. Raiden in turn gathers his warriors and takes them to Outworld. This installment óf the games féatures some familiar facés as well ás newcomers to thé franchise. With the homé field advantage, 0utworld has a féw surprises for théir contestants. However, Mortal Kómbat II improves upón the gameplay óf its precursor, ádding new moves ánd more varied fataIities. Including a féw non-lethal aIternatives to the cIassic fatality. MK II kéeps up on thé tradition of controversiaI violence and goré and we wouIdnt have it ány other way. Among its accolades are Best Fighting Game, Best Genesis Fighting Game and Best SNES Fighting Game. The graphics, sóund and frame raté are closer tó the original arcadé than any othér version released át the time.
